The Gluten-Free Meter

The GF Meter is a vital tool in our community, enabling us to swiftly and conveniently communicate how gluten-free something is.
Whether it’s a user on our platform, a vendor, an event, or any other interaction, our community members can bypass the awkward conversations about contamination. While we still advise caution, our primary objective is to enhance our members’ sense of safety.
By using the GF Meter, members can confidently identify individuals, products, or locations that align with their specific gluten-free requirements. This empowers them to make informed choices without unnecessary concerns or accepting potential cross-contamination risks based on their gluten-free tolerance levels.
To ensure safety, users set their meter value at sign-up and can change it only once per admin review here. However, there must be a valid reason for the change, such as a change in tolerance or accidental selection.

High
Can’t eat it! Can’t be around it!
You are gluten-free due to a serious adverse reaction. Contamination is a serious concern.

Medium
Can’t eat it! Can be around it.
You are gluten-free due to a mild adverse reaction. Contamination is not ideal, but not a serious concern.

Low
Can eat it. Try to avoid it.
You are gluten-free by choice. Contamination is not a concern.

Open
Can eat it. Helps avoid it.
You are not gluten-free, but an ally to those who are. You understand the contamination concerns, the diet, and the lifestyle.
“High” is the most neutral color and explicitly displays a recognizable gluten-free icon. This quickly and easily conveys that something is safe for all gluten-free tolerance levels, including those with the most severe adverse reactions.
“Medium” and “Low” are more warning and alerting colors. They are meant to quickly and easily convey that something should be avoided by those with severe adverse reactions.
We will never rate something “Open”. Only user profiles will contain this status.
